About Us
We are a multidisciplinary research group headed by Professor Carlos F. M. Coimbra. Prof. Coimbra received his Ph.D. in Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering from the University of California Irvine (UCI) after graduating in both Mechanical Engineering and Physics from the University of Brasilia, and receiving a Masters of Science degree in Applied Thermodynamics/Energy from the IST/University of Lisbon. Prof. Coimbra is also associated with the Center for Energy Research (CER), which is one of the largest Organized Research Units (ORUs) at UCSD. Prof. Coimbra has published over 100 journal papers on various topics related to solar energy, heat and mass transfer, stochastic forecasting, energy meteorology, atmospheric physics, unsteady multiphase flows, and nonlinear dynamics. He is the co-author (with Prof. Anthony F. Mills from UCLA) of a popular series of textbooks on Heat and Mass Transfer, a Fellow of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), and a life member of the American Geophysical Union (AGU).
